Why do we charge £9.95 per delivery?
All of our orders are hand-packed with great care in specialist insulated packaging and sent on an overnight courier service. No expense is spared to ensure your food arrives on time and in perfect condition. We pack all parcels with ice packs and foil insulation liners, which we hope you can reuse, including hand-written gift messages, where requested. At Black Mountains Smokery we like to be transparent, we don’t hide our delivery charges elsewhere. We hope our quality of service and produce is worth the small extra cost.
Our Delivery Service

- Using Insulated & sustainable outer packaging to ensure that your order arrives in perfect condition. Our cardboard boxes are all recyclable, inner foil liners and ice packs are reusable and any wool insulation is compostable.
- Chilled overnight delivery service to arrive on your day of choice (Tuesday – Friday)
- A dedicated tracking service. We will provide you and your recipient with tracking information and we also track every parcel to its destination.
- Premium morning delivery available (Postcode dependent) – £3 surcharge
- Sadly, we are no longer able to deliver to Europe and delivery to most Scottish Islands is unavailable as our courier will not carry perishable items for longer than 2 days (see below).
How & When to Order
Please order in advance, where possible. You can select your preferred delivery date (Tuesday – Friday) at checkout to arrange a parcel in time for a birthday, anniversary, or any special occasion.
Weekend and Monday deliveries are excluded to ensure that your order is delivered within the working week. UK Bank Holidays & Public Holidays and the day after them are also excluded for delivery.
Your order is shipped the day before your order is due to arrive and delivered using DPD courier’s next-day service. ( NB some remote areas require a 2-day service).
Orders can normally be despatched within 2 days of being received; and often by the next day. However, it is advisable to order well in advance especially for Christmas and busy periods or for larger quantities. Some products are produced to order only, such as Hams & Gravadlax.
Ordering in advance helps us to plan production to deliver the freshest produce with the longest shelf life. Our produce is freshly prepared, with shelf life of at least 10 – 20 days. Our produce is suitable for home freezing (except Smokey Jo’s Pates).
Delivery Details
Leave Safe Instructions
Parcels do not need to be signed for. The drivers are instructed to leave the parcel in a safe place if the recipient is out. It is advisable to provide specific leave-safe delivery instructions, in case the driver chooses somewhere unsuitable. Please warn your recipients to expect their delivery so that they know to look out for it.
Postcode Look-up
When placing an order, please use the postcode look-up to input your delivery address. If you have a problem finding their correct address, please phone us. We can check it for you. We cannot be liable for parcels misdelivered due to incorrect postcode and address details.
Courier Updates by Text and Email
Please include a mobile number for the delivery address so that the recipient can receive delivery update texts from the DPD driver and provide directions when requested. As the purchaser, you will receive the same courier updates by email.
The driver won’t put a card through the door saying where a parcel has been left but they will text an image of where they left it. Please check that this place is recognisable! We cannot be responsible for parcels delayed where the recipient independently rearranges the delivery date with DPD.
Please be assured that orders are packed in insulated packaging, which will keep the contents in good condition for at least 2 days and more in the wintertime. You need not be concerned about the quality of the food should your parcel suffer a delay.
Christmas Deliveries & Collections
We make special arrangements to cope with the Christmas demand. Orders required in time for Christmas and New Year should be placed ASAP in November and early December with a Christmas delivery date requested. Though we try to keep our order book open as long as possible, it usually closes by the 12th of December or earlier.
All deliveries made from 14th – 20th December will be dated into the New Year, with the exception of Smoked Fish Pates, which have a 7-10 days shelf life and can’t be refrozen, and Gravadlax and Smoked Haddock which freeze beautifully.
Please note that delivery on a specific day during this period cannot be guaranteed. We track every parcel to its destination, however, we are at the mercy of our couriers once parcels leave us.

In the main, our couriers deliver great service but packages can occasionally be delayed, or even undelivered, by the courier. Please contact us as soon as you have any concerns about your parcel. The quicker we know the quicker we can act.
Please warn your recipients that a parcel is on the way and please check the proof of delivery update, that you will receive by text or email, to ensure that delivery has been made to a place that you recognise.

We do our very best to track and chase every parcel to its destination. We have even been known to hand deliver parcels where an area depot suddenly suffers significant delays.
